A couple of days ago I instant messaged a friend because I was feeling ambivalent about an email I was sending regarding a job and needed advice.

Do you think he’ll know what “alacrity” means?

Do you think I want to work for someone who doesn’t?

Good point.

All of my plaintive mewling earlier was premature. Why? Because the fellow to whom I was supposed to speak will be meeting me Friday, not Wednesday. Even though he said Wednesday very, very clearly in his email. Observe: it turns out that it would be much easier if I met you at [that place where you work] at 1:30 on Wed. (I’ve arranged another meeting there at the church at 2:30).

Wednesday! Who would want to work for someone who doesn’t know what day of the bleeding week things happen?

Also, it’s raining.
